This video is part of an NSF funded course Building Undergraduate Capacity in STEM at a Hispanic Serving Institution Utilizing Culturally-Relevant Instruction with Micro-Credentialing through grant HRD-1953606
The course is in Assets-based instruction for STEM faculty in Florida and Texas. This video is the call to action learners will watch at the beginning of the course to highlight why the information is important.
Audience: University STEM faculty in Florida and Texas.
Objectives:
Learners will evaluate their current viewpoints of their students.
Learners will identify deficit based methodologies.
Learners will choose to incorporate asset based instructional practices.
Process: This script was written to introduce the topic and give the learner the a view of the the benefits of implementing the course content. The design of the course includes storytelling through the metaphor of frames of view so the theme of frames and art are a key feature of the video. The video was storyboarded in PowerPoint for review.

Visual Metaphor Video
This instructional video is created with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Audition. This is a 2 minute microlearning video instructing the viewer on the SAM2 model of Instructional Design using a visual metaphor.
Audience: Educators and instructional designers looking for new frameworks for creation.
Challenge: The challenge with this video was to create a visual metaphor to explain a complex system or concept. By utilizing a metaphor it allows the learner to process the information in a different way.
Objective: Learner will explain the process of the successive approximation model in design.
Design Notes: The key design element is relating the steps of SAM2 to the fountain visually. This requires creation of motion graphics and timing graphics closely with narration and background video.

Tech Theory from A to V
Tech Theory is a microlearning experience to be used to support on the job training of student multimedia specialists. The purpose of the podcast is to fill in the theory lessons to give the learners the “why” of Audio Visual setups. The first episode covers the theory of Signal Flow.

Student multimedia specialists will explain audiovisual theory related to setting and operating audiovisual equipment.
Student multimedia specialists will evaluate and correct improper wiring of audiovisual setups.

Student multimedia specialists need to understand the theory behind setting audiovisual equipment as a way to troubleshoot problems. These questions may arise during a setup and their questions may not be able to be answered due to time.

By utilizing a podcast as a just in time resource the learner can listen to the theory and justification for why equipment is set a certain way. Since it is a podcast the learner can listen while completing other tasks as a way to stay on the tight schedule of setup days.
